Hamlet is a character that was uncertain, yet he developed this essence in him that was powerful. His demeanour, emotion, and ambition are justified by his love. Love is what fuelled his anger and intertwined with his insanity to fulfill his goal. Passion paved a path, controlled by Hamlet, that was pure and had no limits. Love is limitless-unconditional-regardless if it is suppressed beneath the layers that are deemed as mysterious. Hamlet claimed that his love for Ophelia was non-existent, but upon her death he felt the pain. Often pain is only experienced by loss, which then leads to how passions have the power to consume you. Hamlet was consumed by his need for revenge, and certainty.
Intrigued by the actions of Hamlet lead me to envision his perspective in a manner that was filled with mystery. The words that he uttered were intricately constructed to reveal a world filled with certainty, yet the facade of insanity was used to shelter his motive. His outlook on revenge wasn’t hasty, nor was it driven by insanity. It was powered by desire and accelerated by the passion that drives one to become certain. My ability to look up and move a soccer ball on the laces of my shoes is similar to how I have my eyes on my goal, but I carry my passion with me. I am consumed by school and sports on a daily basis, but I am comforted by the thought of happiness. The boundaries that confine me on the soccer field are what give me control, certainty. Certainty is a type of freedom that is achieved through struggle and the ability to let go of certain aspects. The idea of letting go is approached in a manner of negligence where loss is understood to be negative. Loss is powerful. Hamlet’s character developed into one that was powerful only after he discovered why he had lost his father. Loss gives us a purpose and I admired Hamlet’s resilience of choosing not to conform to the beliefs that were thought to be factual. His perspective was not altered despite the fact that his loved ones were either manipulated or trying to manipulate Hamlet into believing that Claudius was kind-hearted and pure. The world is intricate, it is filled with joy and despair, but for Hamlet his vision focused in on the evil that was the sole reason of his pain. He had lost his father, the man that he honoured and loved unconditionally. Hamlet’s actions were justified as mine are when I am unable to communicate with the people I hold close. Time is consistent and is also one of my fears, as I seem to always lose track of it. Some may classify my absence as emotionally detached, but my passions and goals have consumed me. Likewise, Hamlet’s certainty had cost him everyone he held close, except Horatio. Although Hamlet had Horatio, his demeanour as a character was individualistic.
I am very proud, revengeful, ambitious, with more offences at my beck than I have thought to put them in, imagination to give them shape, or time to act them in. [Act 3 Scene 1]
The character of Hamlet expresses the very idea of how ambition leads to certainty in order to restore honour. Where honour lies in achieving the goal, but the path to reach it is filled with passion and desire. Both passion and desire are what make us identical. The path that is carved out makes us unique, it is intricate. Hamlet was predominant through his certainty.
